New Kia Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission
Designed for premium smooth shifting and driving efficiency, the new eight-speed transmission from Kia Motors will allow front-wheel drive vehicles to be even more engaging to drive without loading the vehicle down with weight or requiring more room. The new eight-speed automatic transmission even weights almost eight pounds less than the outgoing six-speed transmission. Combined with other weight-saving technology, this can offer a boost to the efficiency and responsiveness of future Kia vehicles.
Thanks to an increased ratio between the top gear and the lower gear, a smaller oil pump, and a simplified valve body, the this new eight-speed automatic transmission should be able to offer quicker gear shifts, improved efficiency, and top reliability.
What Kia Vehicles Will Have The New Eight-Speed Transmission?
In addition to a host of other new standard features like Apple CarPlay, the 2017 Kia Cadenza will also benefit from the presence of this new eight-speed automatic transmission. Future midsize and large Kia vehicles with front-wheel drive (perhaps like the Kia Optima midsize sedan) will come equipped with this option.
Rear-wheel drive vehicles with an eight-speed automatic transmission are already available, but the challenge of fitting all the mechanics of an eight-speed in the space allowed for front-wheel drive can be a challenge.
