2017 Kia Niro Engine

Powering the 2017 Niro is a new hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.6-liter I-4 coupled to an electric motor for a combined output of 146 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. At the heart of the Kia Niro engine design is the Kia’s Full Parallel Hybrid System. This combines the power of a hybrid-exclusive engine with the efficiency of a 43 horsepower electric motor and a lithium-ion polymer battery. All three of these components combined are intended to produce outstanding performance with increased efficiency.

2017 Kia Niro Fuel Efficiency

The 2017 Kia Niro is targeted to have an estimated 50 mpg combined. Even with this impressive target, the Kia Niro doesn’t compromise on sporty performance. The Niro features a driving feel that you wouldn’t expect to have when stepping into a hybrid. It defies normalcy for a hybrid and does the unthinkable. In addition, the Kia Niro is designed to be lighter than ever to preserve energy. Engineered with weight-saving materials, from the body panels to the electric motor and battery pack, it contributes to its outstanding targeted fuel efficiency rating. The body is made to be aerodynamic for a quieter and more eco-friendly ride. It’s an innovative approach to a hybrid crossover.

2017 Kia Niro Safety

Like all Kia models, the Niro is designed with safety in mind. Featuring active and passive safety systems, the Kia Niro is equipped to keep you in better control behind the wheel. Systems like the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), which helps reduce skidding, and Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), which offers increased steering control in harsh road conditions come standard in the 2017 Kia Niro. In addition, the Kia Niro has six standard airbags and a body constructed with 53% advanced high-strength steel to keep you better protected in the event of a collision.
