What Does the Kia K5 Name Mean?
If you’ve been paying attention to Kia news or our website blog, you’ll know that the K5 is one of the newest additions to the Kia lineup. This stylish and performance-driven sedan has easily become one of our favorite models here at Kia of Irvine. Drivers love it, but one thing that has them confused is the name. What does the Kia K5 name mean? Does it mean anything at all? Does the 5 in the name represent something? We’ll explore all those questions here.
The K5 isn’t the only Kia models with a name of this type. Indeed, Kia also has a high-end luxury sedan known as the K900, so seeing a model named the K5 isn’t a huge surprise. There is some precedent for the naming convention.
Where Did the Kia K5 Name Come From?
So, when it comes to the K5, the name is exactly brand new. In fact, across the globe, Kia has sold a sedan known as the K5, whereas here in the United States we have known Kia’s midsize sedan option as the Optima.
In fact, elsewhere around the world, Kia models have names that range from K1 to K9. With that in mind, the K5 name isn’t so much of a surprise, especially is we assume K simply stands for Kia. Being a midsize sedan, it slots right in the middle of the naming convention that exists elsewhere in the world.
