Method and Preparation 

To make these delicious holiday sugar cookies, you will need:  

  • Softened Butter – 2 cups 
  • Baking Soda – 1 tsp. 
  • All-purpose Flour – 6 cups 
  • Sugar – 2 cups 
  • Vanilla Extract – 2 tsp. 
  • Large Eggs – 3 
  • Grated Lemon Zest – 1 tbsp.  

Take a large bowl and cream the butter and the sugar together until they become light and fluffy. The next step is to beat in the eggs one at a time, add in the lemon peel and vanilla essence. Remember to beat well after every egg to incorporate the mix well. Now, combine the flour and the baking soda by passing them through a sieve, then pour it into the earlier mixture and cream. Shape them into three rolls of 10-inches each. Wrap them in separate plastic wraps and refrigerate them for four hours or until the dough formed is firm.

Once firm, unwrap the plastic wrap and cut them into ¼-inch slices. On a baking tray, place the dough two inches apart from each other and bake until they turn golden brown. It should be done within 10-15 minutes if baked at 350 degrees. Let the cookies cool. 

For the frosting, you will require:  

  • Confectioner’s Sugar – 3 cups 
  • Red hot candies 
  • Melted Butter – 3 tbsp.  
  • Green Food Coloring 
  • Milk – ¼ cup 

Meanwhile, mix all the frosting ingredients together and combine until smooth. Drizzle these over the cookies in any shape you desire. Your delicious holiday sugar cookies are ready to eat. Serve on a plate once the frosting sets.
